What do you know about that?

On the second floor of our 1800’s-style saloon at Ruby Red’s hangs a painting that carries deep personal meaning. At first glance, it resembles one of the historic Spanish missions of Texas — the kind you’d find in San Antonio, like Mission San José, often called the “Queen of the Missions.” Built in the 1700s, these missions were more than churches. They were communities, places of gathering, faith, and resilience.

What makes this painting truly special is that it wasn’t discovered in a gallery or purchased at an auction. It was painted by our Founder’s mother, Dee Williamson, as one of her very first works in a lifetime of creating art. With its arches, stonework, and quiet strength, the scene she captured could just as easily have been a decoration in an old Texas saloon more than a century ago.

We are spotlighting this painting now because two weeks ago Dee passed away quietly at the age of 91, surrounded by family. In her honor, we share her art as a reflection of strength, family, and enduring faith — values she painted onto the canvas and lived out every day of her life.

So next time you’re in Ruby Red’s saloon, pause a moment, look up and notice this picture. It doesn’t just represent a Texas mission; it represents a legacy of creativity, love, and family that will always be part of Ruby Red’s.

What a find!!!! I'm not a fan of barbecue places because they seem to be all unhealthy, but we heard that they have a good brunch and then when we looked up the restaurant, I was so impressed that they only use all natural ingredients. No nitrates, no fillers no artificial colors and everything is made on site. I had the eggs Benedict with avocado and it was so good. My BF had the big texas breakfast. I am also a stickler for good coffee and there was freshly brewed and I give it a big thumbs up. The OJ was also fresh squeezed. The decor was amazing with all the custom pieces. Absolutely beautiful wood. For me to give this place five stars is a very high compliment because I am not a southern food person or a real western lover, but I will absolutely come back.

Let me introduce you to one of our outstanding waiters, Kevin. Kevin has become a cherished part of the Ruby Red’s BBQ family, known for his positive attitude and the care he shows to both guests and team members. He grew up in Diamond Bar, California, has traveled to nearly every state in the U.S., and even lived in Japan for six months. His hobbies include playing video games and watching movies, with Jurassic Park topping his favorites list.

When asked what he loves about Ruby Red’s, Kevin didn’t hesitate: “The family that owns it. I’ve never been treated better in my life.” He appreciates the welcoming atmosphere and the sense of belonging that comes from working with such a tight-knit crew.

His favorite Ruby Red’s menu item is the creamed corn (though he admits the macaroni salad is a close second). Kevin says if he ever won the lottery, he would quietly keep it to himself, stay working at Ruby Red’s, and use the money to secretly help others in need — a reflection of his generous and grounded spirit.

Kevin once dreamed of being the lead singer of a band, and today he continues to embrace life with that same creativity and passion. We’re grateful to have Kevin on our team here at Ruby Red’s BBQ — he makes our restaurant stronger every day.

MENU HIGHLIGHT

Macaroni Salad has traveled a long way to become a BBQ classic. Its roots go back to the Hawaiian plantation era, where it was a staple of local gatherings and a symbol of comfort and community. Over time, it spread across the mainland, becoming a backyard essential — creamy, tangy, and refreshing on a hot day. At Ruby Red’s BBQ, our Macaroni Salad is more than just a side — it’s tradition. Guests often tell us it’s the best they’ve ever had and that there’s something unique about it. They just can’t quite figure out the ingredient that makes it special and different. We’ve perfected it to pair with our smoky brisket, tender pulled pork, and hearty ribs. For many, it’s a must-have that brings familiar comfort alongside bold BBQ flavors.
